Ramen VR recently showed off a bit of pre-alpha gameplay for its upcoming VR MMO, Zenith: The Last City. Much of what’s on display will look radically different at launch, but it gives a good sense of what you’ll experience if you make it into the alpha test next month.
Let’s get the bad stuff out of the way first. Zenith lacks a proper UI, its ping seems to be a bit choppy, and its animations still need a lot of work. Ramen VR was quick to point these out during the livestream, noting that the pre-alpha footage doesn’t represent how the game will look – or perform – when it finally hits the market.
You can check out the full 30+ minute stream below. Remember – this is pre-alpha footage:
As for the good – well, that seems to be pretty much everything else. There are few proper VR MMORPGs on the market, and Zenith looks to be a great attempt at the new genre. Combat is progressing nicely, the world looks to offer plenty of nooks and crannies to explore, and the story is set to deliver a deep narrative with plenty of lore to get lost in.
Best of all, you can climb trees and pick apples.
Zenith still doesn’t have a firm release date, although we do have a schedule for alpha testing:
- Preview Weekend (Kickstarter Exclusive): April 17 - 18 Early Bird Alpha: April 19 - 26 Second Alpha: May 31 - June 6
Two betas are also planned, however they are yet to have a date set.
If you’re itching to get your hands on a VR MMO today, you can check out OrbusVR: Reborn. Available on PC and Oculus Quest, the game is built from the ground up for room-scale VR. It’s a reimaging of the original OrbusVR and features new dungeons, raids, classes, and a gorgeous hand-painted art style.
Zenith: The Last City begins alpha testing next month and will eventually release on PC, Quest, and PSVR.
