The classic NES game The Legend of Zelda was the beginning of a whole new era of gaming. It gave us a compelling story with likable characters and plenty of places to explore. The concept of “weak walls” took the idea of exploration a step further, allowing Link to use distinctive blue bombs to find treasure and secret passages.
There are many secrets in Hyrule to discover, even in the vintage games. If players are looking for breakable, bombable, or weak walls in the wilds of Hyrule, there are plenty throughout the countryside. The map of Hyrule is also neatly laid out in a simple x-y axis, with 17 squares in the x, or the horizontal line, and eight squares on the vertical y line.
Make sure Link’s bomb bag is full before setting out on your journey. The easiest way to find these locations is to begin at the starting screen (8-1) and work in a counter-clockwise direction.
22 Square 7-1
The first square to the west of the starting area has a weak place in the center of the north wall. Blow it up to find the Old Man with a money-making game.
21 Square 8-2
Take Link directly north from the starting area. The square next to the starting area has a weak wall on the north side. Break the weak wall and collect 30 rupees, giving your character a strong financial start.
20 Square 12-1
Walking east, Link will pass through a rocky cave that opens to a pleasant beach. Break the wall on the north side for a heart container.
19 Square 13-1
The next square to the east contains a weak wall on the north side. Behind it are the Old Man and his money-making game.
18 Square 14-1
Going east one more time, the north wall is weak. Break it and Link is 20 rupees richer. There are few bombable walls in the green forest that takes up most of eastern Hyrule, so save your bombs as you pass through it.
17 Square 14-6
The stone island in the middle of the screen has a weak point. Break it and grab a heart container.
16 Square 15-6
The small outcropping between the ladder and the shoreline has a weak wall. Blast it open and take 30 rupees.
15 Square 16-7
Continuing north and east, there’s a bombable wall in the northeast corner of the square. Break it for 20 rupees.
14 Square 14-8
Heading up into the mountains, there are a lot more weak walls. Use a bomb on the furthest northern wall in this square to find the Old Woman selling potions.
13 Square 8-8
As Link heads along this precarious mountain pass, he can blast open the wall on the north side and gain a cool 20 rupees.
12 Square 8-6
If Link feels a little wiped out after his hike in the mountains, he can bomb this wall on the east corner to find one of the Old Woman’s potion shops. Relax and refresh before heading out again.
11 Square 7-6
Still in need of some refreshment? Take a turn west and bomb the northernmost alcove to find a handy shop. This is one of four shops in Hyrule that sells the meat to dissuade Hungry Goriya, also known by its constant refrain, “grumble grumble.” Two of these shops are hidden behind weak walls and this is one of them.
10 Square 7-7
This time the weak wall is on the west side of the screen but still in the northern wall. Break it and play the money game with the Old Man.
9 Square 6-8
Weak walls are often optional, giving Link money or items that hep in his quest but aren’t essential to it. This time, Link needs the ring, arrows, and other treasures that are hidden behind this weak wall to defeat Ganon and finish the game. Find it on the southern side of the western boulder.
8 Square 5-7
The treasure hunt through the mountains continues. Break a wall in the top right-hand corner for 20 rupees.
7 Square 4-7
The very top corner on the left has a weak wall. blast it apart and get your 30 rupee reward.
6 Square 3-7
Here’s another hidden shop, but not just any hidden shop. This is one of two shops accessible via a breakable wall that sells items essential to completing the game.
5 Square 4-8
There’s a weak wall just to the left at the top of the stairs. Blast it open and collect an easy 20 rupees.
4 Square 2-8
Almost at the very top left corner, the mountain treasure trail comes to the mountain’s peak. Blow up the weak wall in the northern wall for 20 rupees.
3 Square 1-7
The mountain riches finally dry up here, with a bombable wall next to the stairway. Bomb it and play the Old Man’s money game.
