The game of Yu-Gi-Oh! is filled with all kinds of Monsters. With each new anime series, a new mechanic has always been added to the game — from the GX Era all the way up to Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens. All of these function around the Extra Deck in some way, and are staples in many decks.

However, Fusion Monsters have been a part of the game since the very beginning. The Extra Deck was once just called the Fusion Deck. There are many powerful Fusion Monsters that have been released throughout Yu-Gi-Oh!’s history. Fusion Monsters are among the best of the Extra Deck cards, and in many cases the best cards in Yu-Gi-Oh!

Updated November 21, 2021 by Johnny Garcia: Yu-Gi-Oh! is a game that has shown no signs of slowing down. There have been plenty of product releases in this year alone, with a ton of new cards entering into the metagame and causing a shakeup of the meta. Sets like Burst Of Destiny have forever changed the game with powerful new Archetypes and Fusion Monsters alike. In addition, reprint sets like the 2021 Mega Tins and Ghost From The Past have allowed players to gain access to affordable reprints of highly meta-relevant cards. The game will be more accessible than ever, with the release of Master Duels coming up just over the horizon.

15 Blaze Fenix, The Burning Bombardment Bird

Blaze Fenix, The Burning Bombardment Bird is one of the more interesting Super Polymerization targets in Yu-Gi-Oh!, requiring a Machine Type Monster and Pyro Type Monster to be used as materials. It may be situational for this, but it can completely turn the game around and is a staple in many Pyro-based deck Side Decks.

Blaze Fenix, The Burning Bombardment Bird also includes a Burn effect that does damage based on the number of cards on the field. If you’re going second, this can do devastating amounts of Burn damage, so much so that it’s featured in plenty of FTKs.

14 Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon

Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon is rarely summoned through traditional means but is often brought out by using Monster effects, generally in Pendulum strategies. Since it does not need to be properly summoned to use its effects, it makes Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon the best Fusion Monster in Pendulum decks.

On its summon, it can bounce any of the opponent’s cards on the field to the hand. Afterward, so long as there is a face-up Extra Deck Monster, it has access to an omni-negate capable of shutting down any of the opponent’s plays.

13 ABC-Dragon Buster

ABC-Dragon Buster is such a powerful Fusion Monster it spent some time on the banlist. It is a Contact Fusion Monster, capable of tagging itself out into the materials used to summon it should it ever be in danger.

ABC-Dragon Buster is so good since it can banish any card on the field at any time, so long as you have a card to discard. Since the effect is not a hard once per turn, this allows you to constantly recycle it and repeat its effect. ABC-Dragon Buster is the best Contact Fusion Monster in the game, and one of Yu-Gi-Oh!’s best Fusion Monsters.

12 Masked HERO Dark Law

The best of the Masked HERO cards by far, Masked HERO Dark Law is such a good Monster it can win games by itself. Not only that, it’s a very easy-to-summon Fusion Monster, only requiring a Dark HERO Monster and Mask Change to summon.

When it’s on the field, Masked HERO Dark Law forces any card the opponent would send to the Graveyard to be banished instead, which can completely shut down some Hand Traps. If the opponent adds any card from the deck to their hand, it forces them to randomly lose a card from their hand as well. Masked HERO Dark Law is one of the strongest HERO Monsters and one of the best Fusion Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

11 Destiny HERO - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer

The most recent Fusion Monster to enter the game, Destiny HERO - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer is such a fantastic Fusion Monster that people are running garnets just to be able to use it. Once Destiny HERO - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer hits the field, there’s a very good chance it will never leave it for more than a turn before coming back.

The card can, as a Quick Effect, destroy both itself and another card on the field without targeting. This is some of the best removal in the game, and it can be easily recycled and used every turn to dismantle the opponent’s field. Even though it’s still new, it cemented itself as one of the best Fusion Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

10 Mudragon Of The Swamp

Mudragon Of The Swamp is a very simple card, but one of the best targets for Super Polymerization there is. This is thanks to the materials required to summon it, which only consist of two Monsters with the same Attribute. Thanks to this, it’s very easy to take care of two problem Monsters on your opponent’s Field with Super Polymerization before they can take advantage of them.

Mudragon Of The Swamp’s effect can keep your own Field safe. It helps to keep your Monsters from being able to be targeted, which can save you from some of the best effects being used against you.

9 Millennium-Eyes Restrict

Millennium-Eyes Restrict is seldom made using its required Fusion Materials. Instead, it’s a common Instant Fusion target to make sure your plays get through. Millennium-Eyes Restrict can prevent a Hand Trap from going off with its own effect. This is incredibly strong since it stops cards like Ash Blossom And Joyous Spring.

Millennium-Eyes Restrict is very easy to summon and is able to take care of a multitude of opponent’s effects in both their Graveyard and Field. This powerful Fusion Monster forces your opponent to deal with it right away in order to get their negates through.

8 The Last Warrior From Another Planet

The Last Warrior From Another Planet is widely considered to be one of the best Waking The Dragon targets in the entire game. It’s almost impossible to summon it through proper methods, but thanks to Waking The Dragon, it’s one of the strongest Fusion Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

When The Last Warrior From Another Planet is on the field, neither you nor your opponent can summon Monsters at all. It has a solid Attack stat of 2350, and since it completely shuts down summons, odds are you will win the game as soon as it hits the board.

7 Starving Venom Fusion Dragon

Starving Venom Fusion Dragon is one of, if not the best Super Polymerization targets in the entire game. Going second decks tend to make room for a copy of Starving Venom Fusion Dragon in their Extra Deck.

Its Fusion Materials are only two Dark Attribute Monsters, which is an incredibly easy criteria to meet. Since Dark Attribute Monsters are among the best in the game, odds are there will be more than a few on the Field to use in order to summon it. As an added bonus, if the card gets destroyed, all your opponent’s Special Summoned Monsters go with it.

6 Chimeratech Rampage Dragon

Chimeratech Rampage Dragon is a card that primarily only Cyber Dragon decks can take advantage of, but is so strong that it kept Cyber Dragon in the meta. It can’t be summoned with Polymerization, but rather with Contact Fusing.

It requires a Cyber Dragon Monster, as well as any Monster in the Extra Monster Zone. Chimeratech Rampage Dragon is so good because it can use material from either side of the Field. Since Cyber Dragon can Special Summon itself, you get a 2400 Attack Monster for free, all while taking care of a problem Monster the opponent controls.

5 Invoked Mechaba

Invoked Mechaba is easily the best of the Invoked Fusion Monsters. It is easy to summon, and can even be cheated out with cards like Cyber Dragon Nova. It’s a powerful Omni-negate effect that only requires sending a card of the same type to negate it. After the card’s negation, it will Banish it instead of sending it to the Graveyard.

It only requires Aleister The Invoker and a Light Monster to make in the traditional sense, and Invoked decks can easily get to this position to make Invoked Mechaba.

4 El Shaddoll Winda

El Shaddoll Winda is among the many powerful Shaddoll Fusion Monsters, which consists of some of the best Fusion Monsters in all of Yu-Gi-Oh! In the modern age, El Shaddoll Winda is the highlight. While Shaddoll decks can make it easily, it can also be summoned out with Instant Fusion.

El Shaddoll Winda is one of the best Floodgates in Yu-Gi-Oh! on top of being one of the best Fusion Monsters. While on the field, each player can only Special Summon once per turn. Since Special Summoning is so common in the modern game, shutting it down is often game-ending.

3 Thunder Dragon Colossus

Thunder Dragon Colossus is one of the few Fusion Monsters that were so good that it had to be banned. It could easily be cheated out in Thunder Dragon decks, as well as made with its in-Archetype Fusion spell.

While on the field, Thunder Dragon Colossus had a Floodgate effect that would only affect the opponent. It prevents the opponent from being able to add cards from the deck to their hand except by drawing. It even protected itself by simply Banishing a Thunder Monster from your Graveyard if it would be destroyed to make it near impossible to get rid of.

2 Naturia Exterio

The odds of Naturia Exterio being summoned normally are almost non-existent, but it’s the most common Waking The Dragon target. Naturia Exterio is one of the best negates in the entire game, as it hits two-thirds of Yu-Gi-Oh!’s card pool. By Banishing a card from your Graveyard, you can negate any Spell or Trap card. In addition, you mill a card so you always have a card for its effect. This isn’t once per turn either.

Naturia Exterio has a great 2800 Attack stat as well, making it almost impossible to deal with efficiently.

1 Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon

Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon made a splash in the meta as soon as it was released, and quickly took the mantle of the best Fusion Monster in Yu-Gi-Oh! Thanks to Predaplant Verte Anaconda, any deck can easily make Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon with just two Monsters on the field.

By discarding a card, it can negate any card activation. It can also destroy up to two Monsters on your opponent’s Field while dealing Burn damage equal to the amount of that Monster’s attack. As if that wasn’t enough, it also can not be destroyed or targeted by card effects. Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon has a plethora of powerful effects while being very difficult to get rid of, making it the best Yu-Gi-Oh! Fusion Monster.
