A YouTuber has found what appears to be an unedited line of dialogue in Persona 5 Royal.

YouTuber Faz is a gamer who has been frequently uploading video clips of Persona 5 Royal gameplay since the game’s release. The YouTuber’s most recent upload showcases a line of dialogue from the game with an interesting read.

The piece of dialogue in question is a Ryuji line that can be heard while the player is driving around Mementos. In the video recording, Futaba and Ryuji are talking together in the Morgana car. Futaba says, “I’m about to beat the game I’m playing. Wonder what I should play next?” Ryuji replies to her comment, saying, “Man, whenever I beat a game, I can never decide whether I wanna replay it or start a new game.”

While the text and reading of the line itself appear normal, the text box containing Ryuji’s line remains onscreen for a long pause after finishing his line. After a few seconds of silence, Max Mittelman (Ryuji’s voice actor) can be heard coughing.

There is no reason for Ryuji to be coughing at this moment, which means the additional noise at the end of his line is definitely a mistake.

Comments on the video confirm that a number of gamers have heard this during their playthroughs, confirming this isn’t just a random glitch specific to Faz’s game or console and that it can be heard in the final version of the game.

So how did this unedited take make it in the game? It’s likely just an innocent oversight from the sound engineers who may have overlooked it during editing. After all, the Mementos lines occur at random points while the player is driving around the area, so it’s entirely possible that they missed it.

Persona 5 Royal recently received its first major update last week, but Faz’s video was uploaded just yesterday. This means that, out of all the changes that came with the update, fixing this audio error was not included and that the unedited line is still in the game. Perhaps Atlus will fix this in the next update for the game, whenever that may be.

Persona 5 Royal is available now, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
