The Enneagram is a personality model that classifies human personalities into nine distinct “types.” Although a tad bit obscure, the Enneagram is quite popular with folks who are into spiritual cultivation and self-development. Of course, there’s not much hard science to validate the accuracy of the Enneagram, so it’s similar to the Myers-Briggs Personality theory in that sense. But so what? It doesn’t detract from the fun and novelty that the Enneagram can bring and the insight it can give people into their quirks. So why not assign Pokémon’s types to each of the nine types?
Here are the nine types of the Enneagram:
- Type One - The Reformer Type Two - The Helper Type Three - The Achiever Type Four - The Individualist Type Five - The Investigator Type Six - The Loyalist Type Seven - The Enthusiast Type Eight - The Challenger Type Nine - The Peacemaker
Type One (The Reformer) - Fire
Ones are serious, composed, and always on the relentless pursuit for perfection. Because they’re so committed to making themselves and their environment perfect, they are afraid of being flawed themselves and becoming morally corrupt. For these reasons, Ones are always on the forefront leading crusades and striving to make the world a better place. Their passion ignites them like a blazing inferno but like a fire, they can cause damage if they let to themselves they get too carried away in the quest for perfection. Type Two (The Helper) - Grass
Twos are the natural caretakers of the world. Altruistic, nurturing, and sociable, they take immense pride in their ability to give to others. In exchange, they secretly wished to be appreciated but don’t vocalize their needs at the risk of damaging their selfless image. This symbiotic relationship with their environment makes them similar to Grass-types who influence their environment and are subjugated to its whims. Click here to learn more about Type Two.
Type Three (The Achiever) - Flying
Threes are all about climbing to the top and looking good doing so. Image-conscious yet driven, Threes believe accomplishments and success will make them worthy as individuals. While this applies to all people to some degree, for Threes this belief is at the heart of their personality. Many Flying-type moves are quite bombastic and flashy (coughBraveBirdcough) - much like this dynamic type. Click here to learn more about Type Three.
Type Four (The Individualist) - Ghost
Fours intuitively feel like they’re different from everyone around them. Not in a pretentious sense, since Fours feel profoundly unlovable as a result, but they do feel like no one will truly understand the scope and depth of their emotions. Fortunately, Fours have an uncanny ability to express their emotions through creative mediums, creating great works as a result. Ghost-types, much like the Type Four, often lead lonely existences but have rare abilities that other Pokémon can’t match. Click here to learn more about Type Four.
Type Five (The Investigator) - Dark
Fives are intensely cerebral. So much so, that they spend too much time in their heads calculating their next move instead of taking action. They want to understand the world to its fullest and aren’t comfortable making decisions until they size up their environment. Dark-type Pokémon are similar in this sense and rely on cunning status moves to hinder their opponents. Click here to learn more about Type Five.
Type Six (The Loyalist) - Steel
Sixes prioritize security in all aspects of their lives. But rather than seeking it within themselves, Sixes turn to external forces to quell their anxieties. Still, they can be suspicious of authority and resist having rules imposed on them. Steel-types are well-armored and have the highest Defense stats out of all eighteen types to keep themselves safe from dangerous attacks - similar to how Sixes resist being harmed by their external environment. Type 7 (The Enthusiast) - Fairy
Type Sevens are the thrill-seekers of the Enneagram. Whether they’re like the life of a party or dragging you on another adventure, there’s never a dull moment when a Seven is around. They lead interesting lives to avoid pain and missing out on life. Most Fairy-types have cute designs and bubbly personalities, which is in line with stereotypical Seven traits. Oh, and there’s the type’s association with the fae - lively creatures who live in a world that scarcely resembles reality. Click here to learn more about Type Seven.
Type Eight (The Challenger) - Dragon
Eights are known for their confident but overwhelming personalities. They’re the kind of people who know what they want and will bulldoze anything in their way to get what they want. At their core, however, Eights fear to have their lives controlled by others and hate seeming vulnerable. Dragon-type Pokémon tend to be strong and have intimidating designs meant to strike fear into their opponents. Many Dragon-types also start relatively weak before evolving into their final forms. Type Nine (The Peacemaker) - Normal
Type Nines are easygoing, agreeable, and complacent. Many of them don’t see themselves as special and prefer to blend in with the crowd than stick out. Nines also have a malleable sense of self and see a bit of themselves in other types. Normal-type Pokémon are often overlooked in favor of flashier types, but they are steadfast and strong.
