There are many dogs in Final Fantasy VII Remake and you can’t pet any of them.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is a great game. It serves up a giant heaping dish of nostalgia with a bunch of new stuff thrown in too. If you’ve never experienced Final Fantasy VII, then Remake is the way to experience it.
But FFVII Remake is not perfect. It’s lacking a feature that many modern games have, and its a feature that Square Enix is likely kicking themselves for forgetting.
You can’t pet the dogs. Not a single one.
Worse, there are lots of dogs in Final Fantasy VII Remake. Early on, you meet a dog at Marle’s apartment, but you can’t pet it. All the stray dogs you find in the streets? Not a one that’s pettable. Guard Dogs? Can’t pet those (not that you’d want to). You can’t pet Red XIII when you eventually save him from Professor Hojo’s lab, and you can’t even pet the new summonable dog, Carbuncle.
I can understand why you shouldn’t be able to pet Red XIII–he’s considered his own character and petting another person would just be kinda weird. Not petting Carbuncle, the new summonable alien dog-thing, is also understandable because Carbuncle isn’t really around long enough to pet.
But Marle’s brown dog? The one that’s just begging for pets? Can’t pet it.
What’s worse? You CAN pet the cat.
