As cute as it looks, Yoshi is a powerful creature and there are few enemies within the Super Mario franchise that it can’t defeat in battle. However, there are some Pokémon that would destroy Yoshi very quickly if it happened to get into combat with them in the Pokémon universe.

Although there a lot of Pokémon that would also be weak to Yoshi, there are also those that would have very little trouble taking it out with ease. Without further delay, here are 5 Pokémon that could defeat Super Mario’s Yoshi and 5 more that wouldn’t fare very well against the mighty green dinosaur!

10 COULD DEFEAT YOSHI: Snorlax

Snorlax is a very big Pokémon, and that fact alone would make it very difficult for Yoshi to be of the scoop him up in his mouth. The likelihood that Yoshi would win a fight with Snorlax is minimal, and it’s possible that it would end up being a tie if Snorlax just fell asleep!

However, if Snorlax were awake on the day of the battle, then it would easily smash Yoshi to bits with its large, powerful arms and strong Normal-type attacks such as Hyper Beam.

9 YOSHI WOULD DEFEAT: Rattata

This rat creature is yet another Normal-type Pokémon however, it is very tiny and would be quickly scooped up by Yoshi if they were to get into conflict with each other.

This is also true for many of the other rodent Pokémon within the franchise because they just couldn’t hold their own against a large creature like Yoshi using its tongue to suck them in. Hopefully, Rattata never encounters a Yoshi because it will be trouble if they do!

8 COULD DEFEAT YOSHI: Staraptor

Staraptor is a giant bird compared to a lot of the smaller sized ones within the Pokémon franchise. Because of its large size, it would be doubtful that Yoshi would be able to use its tongue to grab it, and even if that were possible, Staraptor could use its sharp claws and beak to Peck it’s way free.

There are some bird Pokémon that would be easily trapped by Yoshi, but this generation 4 creature isn’t one of them!

7 YOSHI WOULD DEFEAT: Goldeen

Fish haven’t had much luck with Yoshi in the past, and Goldeen is just a larger goldfish, so it would probably play out the same way for it as well. The attacks that Goldeen can throw out are usually weak Water-type moves, and they wouldn’t do much against the powerful force of Yoshi’s tongue.

In the past, Mario hasn’t shown to be very powerful against fish; however, if Goldeen were to come face-to-face with Yoshi from Super Mario, then it would have quite the problem on its fins!

6 COULD DEFEAT YOSHI: Dragonite

This Dragon-type Pokémon can fly, giving it a significant advantage against a creature such as Yoshi. Although Yoshi does have a long tongue, it isn’t long or powerful enough to be able to defeat a beast such as this one that is so large and fast.

The two Nintendo creatures would probably battle it out on the land for a while, and then Dragonite would take to the skies to use powerful attacks such as Dragon Breath to defeat Yoshi and win the battle easily.

5 YOSHI WOULD DEFEAT:  Marill

Marill is a Water-type rodent Pokémon From generation 2, and it would be sucked in by Yoshi without a doubt. Although Marill is on the chubbier side compared to some of the other rodents in the franchise, it still isn’t big enough to resist the powerful force of Yoshi’s tongue.

Marill’s Water-type attacks are also very weak, similar to Goldeen, which is just another reason that it would stand very little chance if it were to go up against this green dinosaur.

4 COULD DEFEAT YOSHI: Blastoise

Blastoise is a Water-type Pokémon that probably could defeat Yoshi. Its powerful cannons could blast the green enemy with water quickly, defeating it and warding it off from combat.

If Yoshi continued to put up a fight, then Blastoise could crush Yoshi with its large body, and Yoshi just isn’t ready to take on a turtle-like this one. Sorry Yoshi, but Blastoise is no Koopa Troopa!

3 YOSHI WOULD DEFEAT: Exeggcute

There is a simple reason that Yoshi would easily win against this Pokémon. All this Psychic-type creature is is a bunch of eggs with faces, and although their psychic abilities can be powerful at times, they also won’t hold their own against something such as Yoshi that could easily crack their shells.

Exeggcute should hope that it never runs into a Yoshi in the wild because it won’t fare well for them. No Exeggcute wants to be the dinner of this green dinosaur!

2 COULD DEFEAT YOSHI: Lickitung

Lickitung would be the ultimate Pokémon versus Yoshi matchup! Lickitung can use its long and powerful tongue to pull in enemies, similar to how Yoshi does so in the Super Mario franchise.

Lickitung would almost certainly win because its tongue is much larger and has a force that is greater than any Yoshi could hope to accomplish. Although it’s possible that Yoshi’s agility could win the fight, it just doesn’t seem that likely that Lickitung wouldn’t be able to defeat the tiny dinosaur.

1 YOSHI COULD DEFEAT: Jigglypuff

The only powerful attack that Jigglypuff has is Sing, and that won’t do much to Yoshi because it is quite a resilient creature. Yoshi can use its powerful tongue to suck in this spherical pink Pokémon and plop it out as an egg within a moment’s notice.

Luckily, Yoshi is quite a gentle creature, so Jigglypuff would probably be safe; however, if Jigglypuff decided to provoke Yoshi, then there might be a problem!
