Developer Playtonic has announced it will soon be updating Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair to make its titular lair a little more possible. For those unaware, the main hook to the wordily titled game is that players can either attempt to thwart the end-game challenge from the start or build up defenses to make it a little easier. Even with extra health, the “Impossible Lair” lives up to its name with no checkpoints.

With this update, players can opt to utilize checkpoints and actually make it to the end of the game. In an entirely optional choice, the main villain’s insane challenge will be broken up into different stages that will record your hit points when you attempt to retry. You can work to make it through each section with more health, thus making the end section much easier.

If you feel that defeats the purpose of the game, fear not! A new ultimate challenge will be available. If you manage to clear the Impossible Lair without checkpoints or extra hit points, you’ll be granted the “Golden Try” tonic. That’s gotta be worth some bragging rights.

Along with this drastic change to gameplay, the new update will bring an 8-bit styled soundtrack to Impossible Lair. Composed by Tater-Tot Tunes, this new soundtrack will play over each of the game’s 2D levels. Now the illusion of retro is complete.
