Xbox fans looking to continue the epic saga of Kiryu Kazuma should mark their calendars for the end of the month. Sega has announced that Yakuza Kiwami 2 will be heading to Xbox One and Windows 10 on July 30, 2020. Those with a subscription to Xbox Game Pass will be able to play the games for no extra cost and should absolutely take up the offer.
I don’t personally believe Kiwami 2 is the best of the series, but it is a solid remake of what many consider the pinnacle of the Yakuza games. It remakes roughly 90% of the PS2 original on the Dragon Engine (which powers Yakuza 6 and Judgment), which provides a wonderful visual treat.
There’s no word on whether or not the game will have Xbox One X compatibility, but you’ll likely be able to get 60 FPS playback on Microsoft’s more powerful console. It definitely supports that on PC and it practically transforms the game. On PS4, you were stuck to 30 FPS and it was definitely sluggish.
Even with the lesser performance, Kiwami 2 was a solid reimagining of Kiryu’s struggle against Goda Ryuji. The localization is excellent and the added side activities make for a title that has more to offer than its PS2 inspiration. Make sure you don’t sleep on this one if you have a Game Pass subscription.
