The next Tetris 99 event is for those who are really feeling it, as it involves a stage based on Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.
Anyone who wants to play online games on Nintendo Switch needs to purchase a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Unlike the similar subscription services offered by Microsoft and Sony, Nintendo Switch Online doesn’t give access to modern games. Instead, subscribers can play a number of free NES and SNES games, as well as an exclusive title called Tetris 99, which involves massive competitive multiplayer Tetris matches. Nintendo later sold a physical version of Tetris 99 with offline modes, but the online mode using Nintendo Switch Online is one of the most thrilling multiplayer experiences on the system.
Tetris 99 has been holding regular events, where players can unlock different stages & background themes based on recent Nintendo Switch titles. The next game to receive this treatment will be Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, which will be featured in an event running from July 3 to July 6. This event will be the 14th Maximus Cup in Tetris 99. A video of the stage has been uploaded to the official Nintendo YouTube channel.
The Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition stage features artwork from the game showing Reyn and Shulk staring off into the distance, as well as a picture of Shulk holding the Monado. The defeated symbols on the other 98 players use symbols from the Monado, which are struck off as the match progresses. The music of the stage uses a medley of tracks from Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.
In order to take part in the 14th Maximus Cup, the player will need an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription. To claim the Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition stage, the player will need to accumulate a hundred points in matches. The number of points the player will win is determined by how high they place in matches, so it’s still possible to win the stage by coming in last during battles, so long as you keep playing.
The Tetris 99 14th MAXIMUS CUP event runs from 12 a.m. PT on July 3 to 11:59 p.m. PT on July 6, 2020.
