Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been delighting gamers all over the world since its release on the Nintendo Switch last month, thanks to its adorable art style, calming music, and open-world setting. However, it turns out that the developers of New Horizons had some help from the creators of another popular open-world title, Xenoblade Chronicles.
Monolith Soft, the Japanese video game development studio behind the long-running fantasy and science fiction series of role-playing games Xenoblade Chronicles, apparently helped with the development of certain areas in the recently released Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The confirmation comes from the recently updated Monolith site, which lists New Horizons as their main title release for 2020.
This isn’t the first time Monolith has lent a hand to open-world games in other franchises. Back in 2017, the company helped develop the critically and commercially successful The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
It’s also not the first time Monolith has assisted with an Animal Crossing title. The site also helped with Animal Crossing: New Leaf in 2012, the last major title in the franchise to be released before New Horizons. Monolith also assisted in the development of the Animal Crossing spinoff game, Happy Home Designer in 2015.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. The Xenoblade Chronicles games are available for the Nintendo Switch as well.
