Details about Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition keep slowly trickling out as we inch closer and closer to its May 29, 2020, release date and this newest bit is juicy. According to a Japanese download card (spotted by Twitter user @rokumanjigaga), the additional campaign in this Switch re-release will be sporting an entirely new battle system for players to tango with.

That could be a blessing or a curse, depending on whom you ask. Many were fond of the way battles were handled in the original Xenoblade Chronicles, so tweaking things even slightly might be seen as a bad move. On the other hand, the main game isn’t mixing things up, so some experimentation with side content shouldn’t be a big deal.

A translation of the above image reads, “An untold story that connects to the future: Includes an additional scenario that reveals Melia’s after-story. A new battle system that utilizes Nopon reinforcements and new map(s) will also appear.” The new maps bit is great since it would be a little lame to simply reuse old content.

Some fans of the original haven’t been pleased with either follow-up (both Xenoblade Chronicles X and 2), so more maps in this original game should placate them. The new battle system remains to be seen.
