It seems that the Xbox Series X will avoid any COVID-19 related delays, as production on the console is already underway. The much anticipated next-gen console looks poised to hit its expected launch window.
The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are expected to be released at the end of 2020, even though neither system has a concrete release date as of the time of writing. There have been concerns among the fans about the possibility of both systems being delayed until 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The coronavirus has led to many production facilities in China closing down, which is where the new consoles are meant to be assembled. These closures have suspended the production of other popular gaming hardware.
Microsoft has seemingly avoided any delays involving the Xbox Series X. Head of Xbox France Ina Gelbert was recently interviewed by Xboxygen and she discussed the production of the Xbox Series X. According to Gelbert, production has started on the Xbox Series X and the consoles will be ready in time for their expected launch date.
Gelbert admitted that there could be future issues involving COVID-19 that could cause delays, but those would be out of Microsoft’s hands. France will be one of the priority countries that will have Xbox Series X units available at launch. The intention is for the system to be present in more countries at launch than the Xbox One.
The fact that Microsoft and Sony have been reticent to announce the release dates for their upcoming consoles led many fans to believe that a delay was incoming, or that they were afraid to give a concrete date with so much uncertainty in the world. The 2020 holiday season is going to bring some of the most important months f0r both systems, and it seems that neither company is going to a risk a delay if their competitor has their system ready. It seems that Microsoft will have systems ready on launch day, but it remains to be seen whether Sony will be able to do the same.
