We’ve already been given a look at the Xbox Series X’s specs, but we can now start to quantify just how well the new console will run in comparison with the Xbox One. According to The Coalition technical director, Mike Rayner, the Series X version of Gears of War 5 loads four times faster with the exact same code.
Granted, Gears 5 was originally developed for the Xbox One, so there’s no guarantee that the average Series X game will load four times faster than the average Xbox One game, but faster load times are a huge focal point for the next generation console. From what we can tell so far, Microsoft is reaching that bar and then some.
Rayner went on to explain that the console exceeded all of his expectations based on what he’s learned to anticipate from a new console generation. He specifically mentions that massive I/O improvements had him particularly excited.
The Xbox Series X is due out this November, where Gears 5 will be available at launch. Those who purchased the game on Xbox One will be able to upgrade for free, a promotion that will also be honored by Halo Infinite and Cyberpunk 2077.
