Back in May, Microsoft unveiled one of the first-ever Xbox Series X console exclusive games in the form of The Medium from Bloober Team. Now the Microsoft Store page for The Medium has gone live, giving fans a glimpse at some brand new screenshots and detailing some of the gameplay features that horror enthusiasts can look forward to when the game comes out at some point later this year.

According to The Medium’s Microsoft Store page, the game will have players visiting an abandoned communist resort, utilizing the main character’s psychic powers to explore and solve puzzles. Players will be able to travel between realities or explore them at the same time, which is a feature shown off in some of the new Medium screenshots. Players will sometimes encounter hostile spirits while utilizing their psychic powers, and they will need to use energy shields and “spirit blasts” to survive against them.

The Microsoft Store listing for The Medium also highlights the game’s composers, Arkadiusz Reikowski and Akira Yamaoka. Akira Yamaoka is the Silent Hill composer who has created some of that franchise’s most haunting tunes, and so it’s definitely exciting that he is working on this project.

With The Medium Microsoft Store page going live, it’s possible that the game is set to be featured as part of the Xbox Game Showcase event, set to take place in just about an hour from the time of this writing. It would make sense for Microsoft to feature the game, as it’s one of the few titles that have been confirmed to be an Xbox Series X console exclusive, and it is expected to be available at the console’s launch or at least within the launch window.

Microsoft appears to have developed a strong relationship with The Medium developers Bloober Team. As some may recall, Microsoft showcased Bloober Team’s Blair Witch game at E3, and while it eventually came to PS4 and Switch, it was an Xbox timed-exclusive for a bit.

Reports indicate that Microsoft is interested in more studio acquisitions, so perhaps Bloober Team will be the next studio to join the Xbox Game Studios umbrella. However, that is just speculation at this time.

The Medium will launch in 2020 for PC and Xbox Series X.
