Microsoft’s rumored Xbox Series S, known in the Development Took Kit OS as Project ‘Lockhart’, is reported to be getting a reveal event in August. The alleged ‘budget-friendly’ Series X reveal may clear up the mystery that has been surrounding Project ‘Lockhart’ and other codenames recently.

Eurogamer has reported that the lower-priced and powered model of the Xbox Series X was originally meant to be revealed at E3 2020. However, after its cancelation, the big reveal was moved to August where it’s due to receive its very own showcase. The cheaper next-gen console has been discussed at length within the gaming community, with talks of a third console reveal after a mysterious ‘Edinburgh’ codename showed up next to ‘Lockhart’.

Eurogamer went into detail about Microsoft’s initial plan to reveal the Series S within its grand E3 show, even though the second console’s existence is still to be acknowledged by the company. Details of the more manageable console were supposed to be explained in full next to its powerful Series X that would justify its existence in the market. After the pandemic canceled E3 and created timing issues from remote working policies, Microsoft decided to no longer show the two consoles and all of the next-gen games at the same time.

By spreading out all of its announcements throughout the year, Microsoft felt it was a better option for the company and for fans to get smaller announcements that it labeled Xbox 20/20. After Venturebeat’s Jeff Grubb announced that Microsoft had a grand reveal for June that was now being held back until August, it seemed pretty obvious that the reveal was pertaining to the Xbox Series S. After Grubb let slip the company’s future plans, Xbox marketing exec Aaron Greenberg promptly released a statement claiming that the company had not delayed anything and that fans should continue to look forward to July’s digital event.

Allegedly, June was deliberately mapped out to be a quieter month for Microsoft, in terms of big reveals and gameplay for future releases, to give way to Sony’s reveal of the PlayStation 5. It was also suggested that Microsoft held back in June to allow for the ever-changing pandemic to run its course before the company made any announcements.

Microsoft will firstly have its Xbox Series X show later on this month that is expected to unveil some new games for the next-gen console as well as some Halo Infinite gameplay. For now, the next two months will be interesting for Xbox fans who have enjoyed the roller coaster ride of console speculation thus far.
