Xbox Game Pass subscribers might have something to look forward to very soon. The official Twitter just announced a “pretty cool game” could be coming to the Game Pass in the near future.
The Xbox Game Pass is a video game subscription service for Xbox One users, allowing users to pay a monthly or yearly fee in exchange for access to a game catalog. The Xbox Game Pass service offers subscribers a variety of indies, triple-A titles, and Microsoft exclusives.
The service’s official Twitter announced today that it “might tell you about [the new game] on Tuesday.” The tweet sparked a debate in the comments over what the game would be. Some users commented that the the tweet might be referring to Minecraft Dungeons, but that’s already been announced and confirmed to be releasing on May 26. The tweet probably is probably referring to a game that hasn’t even been announced yet.
A popular request was for Yakuza Kiwami 2, which arrived on PS4 in 2017. Although the game has been playable exclusively on PS4 and Windows, there’s been some buzz about the game porting to Xbox One. Yakuza Kiwami 2 has been gaining popularity in the West for the last few years, and if it is the game the Xbox Game Pass Twitter was referring to, it will likely be a popular addition to the subscription service. However, nothing is confirmed yet.
Microsoft recently reported “record levels of engagement” on the Xbox Game Pass service. However, Microsoft didn’t earn as much as it hoped in its recent Q3 report. If the Xbox Game Pass is doing well, it makes sense that Microsoft would want to concentrate more effort on improving that service. The Game Pass account’s recent tweet was definitely meant to drum up excitement for whatever the new title will be. If Microsoft wants to get more people subscribing and staying subscribed to Xbox Game Pass, it should be adding games that there’s already a high demand for.
The Xbox Game Pass system seems to be working well for Microsoft, and could be a perfect set-up for the upcoming Xbox Series X release. The combination of a new Xbox console and the next upcoming Halo game would be a great opportunity for Microsoft to package the two with a promotion deal. For now, Xbox One users still have plenty of games to play, and Xbox Game Pass subscribers have a good catalog of games to choose from as well as a “pretty cool” surprise to look forward to.
