Publisher 2K has recently shared a great deal of new information about WWE 2K Battlegrounds, an arcade-style brawler that will be releasing in September of this year. Among this new information were details on WWE 2K Battlegrounds’ roster, its pre-order bonus, and its various game modes. More specifically, four different ways to play this forthcoming title have now been revealed, and fans can find more information on them below.
The first of the now-confirmed WWE 2K Battlegrounds game modes is called Exhibition, and it lets players participate in matches “anytime and anywhere.” This means that the Exhibition game mode supports both local and online multiplayer matches, and up to four players can get in on the action at any given time.
Next up is WWE 2K Battlegrounds’ story mode, which is simply called Campaign and lets fans follow one of seven new wrestlers as they fight for a WWE contract and the chance to compete at WrestleMania. Throughout this single-player journey, players will be able to unlock a variety of new arenas, cosmetics, and more, and they will even receive advice from the legendary “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Paul Heyman.
For players that are more interested in multiplayer, there is also a last-man-standing mode in WWE 2K Battlegrounds, called King of the Battleground, to compliment the aforementioned Exhibition matches. In this online-only mode, four fans start in the ring while four more wait outside, and the goal is ultimately to be the player that outlasts all of the others.
Finally, there is a simple Online mode in WWE 2K Battlegrounds. This is where players will initiate the online aspect of the Exhibition mode, though that has been listed separately due to its local multiplayer support, and it will also where fans will find tournaments for them to participate in.
While some players were certainly disappointed by the announcement of WWE 2K Battlegrounds back in April, the variety of game modes that are now confirmed may be enough to get certain fans back on board. Indeed, whether a player wants to sit down with a story mode or trash-talk with their friends, it seems that this title will have them covered.
WWE 2K Battlegrounds is available on September 18 for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
