In the wake of WWE 2K20 being universally panned by critics and fans alike, 2K Sports has opted to cancel WWE 2K21 and give the development team more time to work on next year’s WWE 2K22. To fill the gap, 2K Sports is releasing a cartoony, arcade-style fighting game called WWE 2K Battlegrounds, which has just confirmed two more wrestlers for its large and still-growing roster.

In tweets sent out earlier today and yesterday, WWE 2K Battlegrounds has confirmed that Jeff Hardy, Mandy Rose, Nia Jax, and The Miz will be featured on the roster. Both Jeff Hardy and The Miz are former world champions, and both are featured regularly on modern WWE TV, so it makes sense for them to be featured in the new game. Mandy Rose and Nia Jax, meanwhile, are two of the top stars in the modern day WWE’s women division. The very short announcement trailer shows that the wrestlers will have over-the-top versions of their signature moves that fans will recognize from TV, as well as attire that matches some of their most famous looks.

Similarly to other WWE 2K Battlegrounds announcements, though, fans have not reacted positively to this reveal. Many of the replies to the tweets are negative, with fans complaining about WWE 2K Battlegrounds’ graphics and accusing it of looking “cheap.” Now, it’s entirely possible that WWE 2K Battlegrounds will be a worthwhile experience when it launches, but it’s safe to say that many fans aren’t impressed with what they’ve seen so far.

Perhaps the most negative press for WWE 2K Battlegrounds came when it was featured as part of the Nintendo Direct Mini. Many fans were upset that Nintendo spent time highlighting the game, especially since the Japanese version of the Nintendo Direct Mini had arguably bigger reveals for Nintendo fans.

Fans will find out just how WWE 2K Battlegrounds stacks up when it launches next month.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds launches on September 18 for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
