It’s been over 6 months since World of Warcraft adventurers defeated the Old God N’Zoth within the depths of Ny’alotha. Since then, an unsteady calm has settled in Azeroth as heroes prepare for many consequences of Sylvanas Windrunner breaking the veil between life and death in the coming months. But like many past expansions, the Shadowlands pre-patch and launch has put a timer on several Battle for Azeroth rewards which have now been confirmed by Blizzard.
Traditionally, an expansion pre-patch shakes up WoW by introducing class changes and limited-time events to entice players back before the official launch date. However, it also serves as a key point to remove or change achievements and mounts to preserve the prestige and effort of acquiring them during their respective expansion. While Blizzard has previously discussed what won’t be available in Shadowlands, a new post today clarifies which cosmetics from Visions of N’Zoth and BfA are leaving for good.
Come the Shadowlands pre-patch, 2 mounts are being removed. The Awakened Mindborer mount and its associated achievement: Battle for Azeroth Keystone Master: Season 4 can only be earned by those who complete all 12 BfA dungeons at Mythic+ Level 15 within the time limit before the pre-patch. On the other hand, the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur mount, which can be bought for 5 million in-game gold, is going extinct from vendors and will only rarely appear in the Black Market Auction House while the achievement for buying it during BfA will be gone permanently.
Furthermore, the corruption powers introduced in 8.3 will be disabled along with their debilitating influence immediately after the pre-patch hits. Similarly, the ‘Mad World’ achievement and ‘Faceless One’ title awarded for fully clearing the Horrific Visions of Stormwind and Orgrimmar solo while using all 5 Faceless Masks will no longer be obtainable. Finally, the ‘Ahead of the Curve’ and ‘Cutting Edge’ achievements for defeating N’Zoth the Corrupter in Heroic and Mythic Ny’alotha will disappear forever.
Although plenty of mounts and achievements are being removed in the pre-patch, there are still a few sticking around until Shadowlands launches. The Uncorrupted Voidwing mount will continue to drop from defeating Heroic N’Zoth as the ‘Spawn of Vexiona’ item which can be redeemed by talking to Wrathion afterwards. Additionally, the ‘Phenomenal Cosmic Power achievement and its title ‘Azeroth’s Champion’ can still be earned by infusing all Rank 4 essences from Patch 8.2 into the Heart of Azeroth until everyone departs for WoW’s afterlife.
When Shadowlands arrives, all previously mentioned BfA mounts and achievements are going away, but Blizzard is making changes to 2 more mounts from Mythic raids. The Glacial Tidestorm from Battle of Dazar’alor and Ny’alotha Allseer from Ny’alotha, the Waking City will both go from a guaranteed drop of 2 mounts down to a 1 percent chance of a single mount.
As WoW players can see, there’s still a lot to do in Zandalar, Kul’Tiras, and the rest of Azeroth before stepping foot in the Shadowlands. Thankfully, this means they have few months left to strengthen characters to take on these challenges and earn the rewards. But many other heroes are willing to lend a hand, as plenty of community initiatives like Perky Pugs are going around to help players with less gear or time get their Uncorrupted Voidwings.
World of Warcraft is available now on PC.
