Nothing tastes better than the sweet taste of freedom, except maybe the cake that gets you there! The Great Cake Escape promises all the excitement of The Great Prison Bake-off.

The talented folks over at Wizkids have put together another easy to play, family-friendly tabletop board game. It is designed by Jay Treat and features the illustrative and graphic design skills of Alexandr Nikiforov, Scott Harmann, and Daniel Solis. The rules for the game are simple to learn and is suitable for a wide age range. The box suggests it is suitable for 2-4 players aged 10+, but we suspect players a touch younger could manage this fine. It’s a quick game to play and set up is a breeze, handy if you want to have a quick game before something bigger or only have limited time. We estimate around the 15-20 minute mark is realistic. The centerpiece is a pre-assembled 3 layer 3D cake that stacks when playing and can be neatly stored back in the box with the top layers nestling inside each other. There are a total of 44 tools to try and sneak past the guards.

The game sees you compete against the others as you try to hide the most tools in the cake and see them be successfully sneaked into the Prison. You do this by pushing the tools between the layers of the cake. If there is already a tool in the area that you are pushing into, you are allowed to continue pushing the blockage out of the way. This could simply be making it barely visible or you could take the more risky move of pushing it out entirely and facing the wrath of the other player. After all the tools have been placed, the cake is ready to go and be inspected by the Prison guards. Visible tools will be confiscated and removed from the cake. Finally, you tally up the total of the remaining tools that each player has successfully sneaked past the guards, and the player with the most points wins.

Should you be up for the challenge, don your aprons, grab your rolling pins and get ready, steady, bake! The Great Cake Escape is available now from the Wizkids web store and most local game stores.
