Capcom has announced that Resident Evil 3 has sold over two million units in the first five days of its release.
Resident Evil 3 is the remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, both of which star Jill Valentine as she attempts to escape from Raccoon City during the zombie outbreak. The release of Resident Evil 3 was thrown into chaos due to COVID-19, as game stores are closed around the world due to the self-isolation period. Fans have been receiving their copies that were dispatched by post at different times, with some people getting it early or late.
Despite the tumultuous release of Resident Evil 3, the game has had a great start in terms of sales. According to Capcom, Resident Evil 3 sales exceeded two million units across all platforms during the first five days since its official release and that almost half of those sales came from the digital version of the game. Capcom also announced that Resident Evil 2 has sold over 6.5 million units since its release in 2019. The polarizing reception towards Resident Evil 3 (and its short length) might have impacted the sales of the game, but we’ll likely have a clearer picture of its performance in a few week’s time.
