Fantasy worlds in video games are known for having dark undertones. The popular Witcher series and Skyrim are no stranger to presenting twisted concepts for players to sink their teeth into. The worlds of Geralt and Dovahkiin are littered with moral dilemmas that give players the freedom to mold the characters as they wish.
There are tons of main and side quests in the game that will test the player’s morals. They can choose to make the characters cruel or kind. Which character can do the worst actions, though, and which game has the loosest morals? Who is truly the worst fantasy hero, Geralt of Rivia or Dovahkiin?
10 Geralt: Cheats Constantly
Geralt has a problem with being promiscuous. The White Wolf is known for having a weakness for the ladies, especially if they happen to be able to use magic. Geralt has been known to cheat, even though his girlfriends usually have enough power to kill him with ease.
Geralt seems to have little issue with possibly breaking the heart or Yen or Triss, as long as they don’t find out.
9 Dovahkiin: Kills Their Wife
While cheating doesn’t seem to be as common for Dovahkiin, he can just kill his wife at any time. This can be done quickly using a variety of methods like a sword or using magic to burn her alive. This seems a bit worse than cheating and shows just how cruel the Dragonborn can be.
Geralt would never kill Yen or Triss unless they gave him no other choice.
8 Geralt: Turns A Blind Eye To Yennefer
While Geralt isn’t willing to hurt others, he has no problem with standing beside Yen as she tortures others around her. Whether it be a living person or someone who is already dead, he even lets Yen kill a whole sacred garden without even attempting to fix the situation.
This makes Geralt just as guilty as she is in her crimes.
7 Dovahkiin: Practices Necromancy
The Dragonborn has the ability to learn necromancy themselves and can bring back fallen bodies to aid them. It doesn’t seem like the bodies are inhabited by a soul, though, which makes this action a lot less cruel. Necromancy is a hard topic to discuss in the world of Skyrim, but Dovahkiin doesn’t use it for torture.
Geralt might be worse in this category as he actually watches a spirit go through immense pain.
6 Geralt: Kills Monsters Who Are Wronged
Geralt will kill a monster even if they are only acting out of anger towards humans. It’s no secret that many humans are racist towards those that can use magic or look different. In many cases, Geralt will choose to kill the monster even if it’s the human who has truly done wrong.
This is a bit sad since many of those same humans also treat Geralt with the same disrespect.
5 Dovahkiin: Joins An Evil Organization
Dovahkiin doesn’t seem to discriminate in killing. In fact, they join the Dark Brotherhood, a group of assassins who can be summoned by those performing a dark ritual. Once contracted, the group will assassinate the target without doing any investigation into the plea.
To be honest, though, this is about the same way Geralt kills some monsters.
4 Geralt: Values Money Over Human Lives
Geralt has been known to walk away from a request if the village doesn’t pay. While he does have a business to run, some situations will kill the whole village if he doesn’t interfere. He is also known for asking for more money, even if the village is poor.
This shows that Geralt is able to choose coin over saving lives.
3 Dovahkiin: Steals Money From People They’ve Saved
On the flipside, Dovahkiin will save someone only to walk right into their house and take everything that he is able to carry. This includes money, clothes, potions, and even food. At least Geralt doesn’t literally take everything that the villagers possess when he demands they raise their rate.
Dovahkiin will even steal from a child’s room.
2 Geralt: Stays Out Of Conflict
Geralt makes it a priority to stay out of most wars and conflicts that are going on around him. Witchers are neutral forces that try not to pick a side no matter what cruelties are going on. This is a pretty harsh stance to take, especially when some countries are trying to eliminate your friends.
It’s safe to say that Geralt has a very morally loose perspective on many issues.
1 Dovahkiin: Gets Involved In A War
Dovahkiin is more than happy to jump right into the war in Skyrim. This is even before he takes a good look at the issues. Both sides of the war have some corruption, and instead of trying to unite the people, the Dragonborn decided to take a side in the war.
This is more than a bit unfair since he is such a powerful human.
