The votes are in, and the Pokémon which will be spotlighted for Pokémon GO’s next two Community Days have been decided.
Pokémon GO’s latest Community Day took place over the weekend. Thankfully for fans, Niantic has continued to hold the monthly event in-game despite the COVID-19 outbreak. The rewards and bonuses have had to be tweaked due to the global pandemic, a trend that started in April via Abra’s delayed Community Day.
Last weekend’s Community Day was all about Seedot. Both Abra and Seedot were selected by Niantic. However, back in February, the developer allowed trainers to select which Pokémon would be getting the CD treatment. Granted, the choice was limited to four Pokémon, but it was still pretty cool to see. Although that hasn’t returned to become a monthly occurrence, the trainer vote has come back for June and July.
Trainers were given four options once again this time around. Sandshrew, Squirtle, Gastly, or Weedle. The winner of the vote will be June’s Community Day star, and the runner-up will be the focus in July. It was a very close runoff between the top two, but not so much between the Pokémon that finished in third and fourth; it seems fair that both first and second place will get their moment in the sun.
Weedle won the vote with 34.1% of trainers opting for the bug-type to have its Community Day. Gastly came in what we already revealed was a close second with 32.3% of the vote. Squirtle was third with 22.8%, and Sandshrew finished in dead last on 10.8%. Weedle’s Community Day will take place on June 20, 2020, while a date for Gastly’s day is yet to be officially confirmed.
As well as higher spawn rates for both, players will have the chance to catch shiny variants of Weedles and Gastly on their respective days; the special moves their evolved forms can learn that day have also been revealed. Evolving a Kakuna during the Weedle event will result in a Beedrill that knows Drill Run. Evolving a Haunter during the July Community Day will land trainers with a Gengar that knows Shadow Punch.
