Intel files found in the Jack the Ripper DLC for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate hint that Ubisoft is considering updating future games in the franchise with a new modern day protagonist.
Ever since Assassin’s Creed III ended Desmond’s tale, the last several games in the franchise have moved away from having a dedicated protagonist during the modern day story segments. Instead, these gameplay moments have not only gotten briefer, but they’ve put the focus on the player acting as the protagonist thanks to a first person viewpoint. The player’s task was essentially the same, acting as an employee of Abstergo Entertainment (a front for the “evil” Templars) while relaying information back to the Assassin’s who were helping the player along.
Thanks to some intel files found in the recently released Jack the Ripper DLC for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, it appears that Ubisoft could be moving back to a dedicated protagonist character during the modern day setting for the next Assassin’s Creed game.
Assassin’s Creed Community Manager Andrien Gbinigie recently put out a video with all of the six Assassin intel files, giving players a better look at the potential future direction the fictional group appears to be moving in. In particular, the third file highlights the group not wanting to continue to involve the Initiates group in any further Assassin activities for fear of putting that untrained group further in the Templar crosshairs. This is significant as the player is a member of the Initiates group led by a character named Bishop, who essentially is the player’s handler during the modern day events of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.
