What are the gangs in Cyberpunk 2077 all about? There’s been a lot of hype about this game because it’s meant to be CD Projekt Red’s next open-world masterpiece. The fact that it will include fan-favorite action star Keanu Reeves is also boosting the hype.
The game is based on the tabletop game Cyberpunk, which came out in 1988. Cyberpunk 2077 will be an open-world RPG adventure game set in the futuristic Night City, California. The city is divided up into different areas controlled by different gangs. The main character, V, is a mercenary who has to explore the city on a quest to find a piece of tech that can help achieve everlasting life.
Maelstrom
Maelstrom dresses in chrome and leather and heavily augment themselves with cybertechnology. Many of the members suffer from cyberpsychosis, a disease caused by too many tech enhancements to the body. They view ordinary humans as weak and can’t relate to them anymore. The gang is violent towards most other people and are always looking for drugs and new technology.
The Lizzies
This gang is obsessed with singer Lizzy Wizzy, who’s voiced by Grimes in the game. Wizzy Lizzy committed suicide on stage and was brought back to life, but with a cybernetic body. The Lizzies consider her resurrection as a form of art. They are obsessed with the singer and won’t tolerate disrespect to their icon, or themselves.
The Mox
The Mox call themselves," those who protect working girls and guys," from the violence and abuse. They are said to idolize Elizabeth “Lizzie” Borden, a former prostitute who owned a strip club and treated all her employees well and protect them from danger.
Steel Dragons
The Steel Dragons were founded by Yorinobu Arasaka, heir to the Arasaka corporation. When he found out about the company’s nefarious activities, he vowed to put a stop to them at all costs. His gang has sworn to destroy the Arasaka corporation and everything they stand for.
The gang wears black leather and embroidered suits and loves to ride motorcycles. They also use traditional weapons and are in direct adversaries to the Tyger Claws.
Wraiths
Not much is known about the wraiths. They are apparently nomads, who live in the Badlands. They are led by someone called Dogkiller and are known to travel at night and attack enemies while they sleep. The Wraiths use a souped-up vehicle called the “Reaver” to patrol their area.
The Voodoo Boys
This gang originates from Haiti and resides in the Pacifica area. They are easily identifiable by their feather implants, tattoos, biosculpting, and bones embedded in their noses and ears.
The gang is known for being very violent. They regularly torture and mutilate victims for rituals and to inspire terror. The Voodoo Boys have no direct rivalries with any other gangs, but still attack people without any real cause.
Animals
Animals are led by Sasquatch, the fastest and strongest amongst them. They value physical strength above all else and avoid cybernetic implants. Their quest for bodily perfection has led them to use animal supplements, testosterone, and a steroid called “The Juice.”
The gang make their income through dealing in illegal substances and are renowned prize fighters and bouncers.
Tyger Claws
The Tyger Claws have Japanese origins and reside in Japantown. They are supported by the Arasaka corporation and are known for their luminous tattoos and motorcycles. The Tyger Claws prefer traditional Japanese weapons like the Katana, and use martial arts instead of cyber enhancements. This gang is rumored to be a direct rival to the Steel Dragons.
6th Street
This gang was formed by war veterans to protect the residents of the Vista Del Rey district in Night City. Their motto of “bringing justice to the city” has now changed to serve their own ends.
Valentinos
The Valentino’s is one of the biggest gangs in Night City and is made up of predominantly Latin American members. Their only goal is to seduce the most beautiful women in the city.
The Valentino’s have their own code of conduct and meet four times a year to compare conquests.
Bozos
The Bozo’s are a sadistic prankster gang who don’t mind hurting people for their own entertainment. Most of them have surgically altered their bodies to look like clowns and have long feet and permanent frowns. Many of the Bozo’s are insane and are known to target victims from all over the city.
This is all we know for now, but more information will come out before the game drops on September 17.
