Pokémon’s fourth generation takes place in the vast Sinnoh Region. Known for its legends and history surrounding the origins of the established world today, the Sinnoh  Region is filled with mystical Pokémon of equally complex natures and abilities. For example, Dialga and Palkia control time and space, while the three Lake Guardians created wisdom, willpower, and emotions. Arceus is even seen as a god to the rest of the Pokémon.

That being said, these Legendary Pokémon and their fellow Sinnoh habitants often come with inherent traits and personalities that can be traced back to the twelve different signs of the Zodiac.

11 Aries: Garchomp

Aries are naturally fearless, which allows them to not only stick their neck out for others but also accept any challenge that comes their way. They are the most competitive sign out there.

As the pseudo-legendary Dragon of Sinnoh, Garchomp has a knack for fighting. In its fierce rivalry with Salamence, Hoenn’s pseudo-legendary Dragon, it will show no mercy as they fight over food. Incidentally, Garchomp’s competitive nature paid off as it ranked significantly higher than its rival in the vote for Pokémon of the Year.

10 Taurus: Piplup

Stubbornness is a trait that a Taurus cannot live without. However, this stubbornness often comes from a place of determination and never settling for less than what they desire.

The tiny penguin, Piplup, and its evolutions, Prinplup and Empoleon, are known to be extremely prideful Pokémon who have high standards. This pride leads the small Piplup into exhibiting very stubborn behavior with trainers, as seen in the anime with Dawn and her starter. Even when it falls, Piplup will pick itself up and keep going as if nothing happened.

9 Gemini: Rotom

The great thing about a Gemini is that they are open-minded and always willing to see other sides of the story and listen with an unbiased heart. While they might not always be the most decisive people, that gives them room to explore all their options.

A Sinnoh Pokémon with many options is Rotom. It doesn’t have a permanent evolution, but it does have a variety of different forms it can change to at will. By possessing various appliances, Rotom can take the shape of microwaves, washing machines, and even the Pokédex.

8 Cancer: Mesprit

Driven by their emotions, Cancers are very nurturing and sensitive to the people around them. They not only open up to people they trust but also lend an ear to anyone who needs to talk it out.

Part of Sinnoh’s rich history focuses on its three lakes, Lake Valor, Lake Acuity, and Lake Verity. Lake Verity is watched over by the lake guardian, Mesprit, who is said to have given people the ability to feel emotions. Without Mesprit, humans would be emotionless and unable to comprehend their thoughts.

7 Leo: Vespiquen

In order for Leos to be strong leaders, they need to first gain the respect and support of their people. From there, they can protect their team while leading them to greatness.

As the queen bee of Sinnoh, Vespiquen is a leader to many hard-working Combee. Just as the Combee are willing to fight for it, Vespiquen will also do what it can to protect its hive. In that way, Vespiquen has built a strong relationship with the Combee, and they can defend the hive together with moves such as Attack Order and Heal Order.

6 Virgo: Lucario

Some people like to tackle tasks head-on without much thought, but Virgos are just the opposite. Rather than acting on instinct and in the moment, Virgos will weigh out their options and put extra thought into the matter at hand.

With its ability to sense aura, Lucario has an edge when it comes to planning ahead and making informed decisions. In battle, Lucario uses its ability to read its opponent while predicting its next move. Outside of battle, the aura helps it to gain a better understanding of humans before it decides to trust them.

5 Scorpio: Darkrai

Scorpios like to keep a low-profile as they work toward their goals. This puts a sense of mystery around them, though it’s not always their intention to be sneaky or malicious.

Darkrai is known for inflicting humans with nightmares and is feared by the general public. It hides in the shadows to keep its whereabouts unknown, which only adds to its shady reputation. But the truth is, it’s simply part of Darkrai’s nature and duty to keep the world in balance from a distance.

4 Sagittarius: Mantyke

Having to tend to certain responsibilities and obligations can be stressful and tough, but a Sagittarius knows how to live without anything burdening them. They have a carefree mind that allows them to follow whatever puts them at ease.

A very easygoing Pokémon is the baby manta ray, Mantyke. With the ability to swim and skip through the sea, Mantyke can travel freely to wherever their heart desires. They are also known to be social butterflies who get along well with sailors and its fellow fish Pokémon, Remoraid.

3 Capricorn: Staraptor

Capricorns have a tendency to distance themselves from others during times of self-improvement. They strive for greatness and never know when to quit.

While its pre-evolutions, Starly and Staravia, enjoy living in flocks, Staraptor is a much more independent bird who can fend for itself. It cares greatly about its strength and fierce appearance, and it will challenge tough opponents in order to grow even stronger. Even if it is tired or hurt, Staraptor will push itself to the absolute limit.

2 Aquarius: Munchlax

An Aquarius is not one to go with the flow. Instead, they go against the grain without giving any thought to norms and expectations. They will walk the path that guides them to their personal interests.

Munchlax is a hungry Pokémon who is definitely guided by its own interest in food. Always in search of food, it walks wherever its stomach and feet take it. Its leisurely stroll shows that it knows how to go at its own pace and does not worry about falling behind others.

1 Pisces: Chatot

With a knack for creativity, Pisces excel in the arts. They pick up inspiration from the world around them and use it to create the greatest masterpieces.

A tiny parakeet who takes inspiration from humans and other Pokémon is Chatot. After hearing human speech or a Pokémon’s cry, it can imitate it perfectly in its own voice. It can then take those sounds and create crafty songs and tunes with its artistic talents.
