Over the course of eight generations, we’ve seen nearly 900 pokémon added to the National Pokédex. Each species of pokémon is unique and special in their own way, but there is only a handful of them who have the lite status of a legendary pokémon.
Legendary pokémon are defined by their rarity and divine capabilities, as well as the legends associated with them in each region. So far, there are around fifty legendary pokémon, each with their own strengths and traits. In combination with their legends and personalities, twelve legendary pokémon can, therefore, be assigned to a suitable Zodiac counterpart.
12 Aries: Kyogre
Aries are brave and ambitious individuals. They fight for what they believe in and never back down from a challenge. More often than not, they have a rival whom they compete with.
Most legendary pokémon are fierce in one way or another, but Kyogre absolutely dominates the sea as the one who controls rainy weather and the expansion of oceans. Its control of water naturally clashes with its rival, Groudon, who controls the earth and sun. Despite its usual calm nature, it will get extremely aggressive against Groudon.
11 Taurus: Zamazenta
Taurus are stubborn in a way that proves their loyalty, and they know how to stand their ground against all odds. Their unwavering hearts shine best when they have a firm belief or people whom they must protect.
The legendary Shield pokémon Zamazenta is hailed as a warrior hero for its efforts to protect the people of the Galar Region. In contrast to its more offensive partner, Zacian, Zamazenta is a literal shield that will not allow any attack to get past its defenses.
10 Gemini: Tapu Koko
A Gemini is someone who keeps their options open rather than committing to one specific thing. They also are not bent on certain opinions and can be swayed to change their mind if the situation calls for it.
Tapu Koko might be one of the four guardian deities of the Alola Region, but that does not mean it’s fully committed to protecting the Alolan citizens. Rather, it comes and goes depending on what catches its interest at the time. If it is curious about certain people or pokémon, it is more likely to help out.
9 Cancer: Latios & Latias
Driven by emotion, Cancers are sensitive people who have a knack for understanding others on a deeper level. They are likely to have heart-to-heart conversations with people they care about.
With the power of telepathy, Latios and Latias are professionals at sensing the emotions of humans. They dislike hostility and are naturally drawn to compassionate trainers. They can then use their telepathy to communicate and connect with the person in order to gain a better understanding of humans as a whole.
8 Leo: Cobalion
Leos are prideful leaders who know how to steer their team in the right direction. They can be stern and strict at times, but they do what they feel is necessary to better the group as a whole.
The Swords of Justice, Cobalion, Virizion, Terrakion, and Keldeo, are known for being a loyal pack of Legendary Pokémon. Cobalion acts as the leader and inspiration for the rest of the pack, and it assumes the responsibility of making informed decisions that will keep the others safe.
7 Virgo: Uxie
A Virgo thrives in information-gathering and strategic thinking. They take all of the information they gathered in order to formulate rational decisions and judgments.
As the Lake Guardian of Lake Acuity in the Sinnoh Region, Uxie is the Legendary Pokémon who is responsible for knowledge. According to its Pokédex entry, it created knowledge for humanity in order for them to become problem solvers. With that much power, Uxie proves that knowledge is key.
6 Libra: Lugia
Libras are graceful individuals who dislike conflict. If they sense tension or conflict in the room, they will do everything in their power to resolve the issue in a diplomatic way.
In Pokémon the Movie 2000, Lugia was the star of the show who helped Ashe save the world. After the Legendary Bird Trio Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos fell out of balance, it was up to Lugia to restore order by taking down the antagonist, Lawrence, and assisting Ash as the Chosen One.
5 Scorpio: Giratina
Scorpios are ambitious and mysterious individuals who are always seeking to take matters into their own hands. For that reason, they are willing to fight for both their desires and valued possessions.
The Ghost/Dragon-type Pokémon, Giratina, is spooky at first glance and even vaguely resembles a scorpion in its Origin Form. While its space-time counterparts, Palkia and Dialga, are in charge of controlling time and space, Giratina can control different dimensions of the world while being highly territorial of the mysterious Distortion World it resides in.
4 Sagittarius: Cosmog
The most adventurous and peppy of the twelve Zodiac signs is Sagittarius. A Sagittarius knows how to let go of their worries and live a life of freedom and self-fulfillment.
While its two final evolutions, Solgaleo and Lunala, play important roles in influencing the sun and moon, Cosmog is a baby Legendary Pokémon who doesn’t have many responsibilities to worry about. In the game, it also has a habit of escaping the confines of Lillie’s bag to gain a little bit of freedom and fun.
3 Capricorn: Azelf
Capricorns are the hardest workers who tend to close themselves off from the world to avoid distractions from what they seek to achieve. They possess great willpower and are people on whom you can always count.
Like Uxie, Azelf is one of the Sinnoh Region’s Lake Guardians. It is said to have given humanity the gift of willpower, and because of that, people have learned how to stay strong and motivated. If it wanted to, it could even control the will of another being.
2 Aquarius: Ho-Oh
Aquarius is best described as independent and unique. They do what is in their best interest, even if it means going against what everyone else does.
Ho-Oh is the stunning flying pokémon who Ash sees at the very beginning of his journey. While it is known to resurrect the dead, it also serves as a symbol of happiness to those like Ash who catch a glimpse of it. Therefore, it freely soars the skies to seek out people deserving of happiness.
1 Pisces: Cresselia
Pisces are imaginative people who love to dream. They are known to use their artistic abilities to convey their thoughts and feelings.
Conveniently, there is a Legendary Pokémon who specializes in dreams. Known as the Lunar Pokémon, Cresselia has Psychic powers and feathers that allow it to soothe nightmares and replace them with sweet dreams. In addition, it gracefully shows off its artistic abilities with its signature move, Lunar Dance, in which it sacrifices itself to fully heal an injured ally.
