In the Pokémon universe, monsters are caught, trained, traded, and used for battle. And while the relationship between a trainer and Pokémon may appear to be about ownership, it is more so based on compatibility. If a trainer and their Pokémon do not get along well, they’re bound to lose many battles, simply because they cannot get on the same page.
Coincidentally, zodiac signs work in a similar way in terms of compatibility. Certain signs have personalities and traits that either mesh well together or clash too much. Therefore, first-generation Pokémon can be assigned to trainers based on their zodiac signs.
12 Aries: Rapidash
An Aries is a brave and ambitious individual who strives to be the best. They are highly competitive at all times, but that’s what pushes them to aim for the stars.
Rapidash is one of the most competitive Pokémon from the first generation. It will not hesitate to race other Pokémon to see who’s faster. In fact, they even compete against fellow Rapidash to determine the leader of the pack. This is most likely the reason why Rapidash is considered one of the fastest Pokémon at 150 miles per hour.
11 Taurus: Tauros
The biggest quality of a Taurus is that they’re stubborn, but that also means they’re loyal and dependable no matter what. They definitely would not get along with anyone who’s wishy-washy.
The most obvious companion for a Taurus would be Tauros. They are not only the same bull-like creature but also similar in their stubbornness and strong will. Once a Tauros sets its mind on something, they won’t stop charging until they’ve found success. Together, a Taurus and Tauros could conquer all.
10 Gemini: Eevee
In contrast to Taurus, a Gemini is more open to the world and ideas presented to them. Rather than setting their sights on one thing only, they prefer to keep their options open and explore new opportunities.
Eevee happens to have the most options and opportunities in terms of evolution. It is the only Pokémon who can choose from eight different evolutionary paths. Before committing, its Gemini trainer can take time to evaluate each option, and Eevee will easily adapt to that decision.
9 Cancer: Chansey
Cancers have a tendency to be sensitive to people and situations. They often act with their heart rather than their head to put others before themselves.
It would be convenient to unite Cancer the Crab with Krabby, but Chansey seems to be a better fit in terms of personality. Chansey is iconic for being Nurse Joy’s assistant at the Pokémon Center. It helps to heal injured Pokémon while showing a very nurturing nature. It honestly just wants everyone to be happy and healthy.
8 Leo: Nidoqueen
Leos are proud leaders who need to be strong in order to lead the pack. While they strive for power and authority, they do so to provide for the ones they care about.
Based on its name, Nidoqueen is perfectly fit to be a leader. With its male counterpart, Nidoking, it servers as a leader to young Nidoran, Nidorino, and Nidorina. It is strong on its own, but when faced with danger, its true strength comes out in order to protect the rest of its pack.
7 Virgo: Mewtwo
Virgos are those who have a habit of analyzing situations. Sometimes they might even overthink certain scenarios in their head, but it is key for them to not make any rash decisions or act recklessly.
One of the most intelligent and methodical thinkers amongst Generation I Pokémon is Mewtwo. As seen in the first movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back, Mewtwo questions its own existence and purpose. And despite the initial misunderstanding, Mewtwo finally comes to terms with how humans and Pokémon can coexist.
6 Libra: Ninetales
Libras are known for their charming and elegant ways. They also like to resolve problems and bring balance to the world around them.
As a fox luscious golden fur and nine mythical tails, Ninetales is often praised for its beauty and charming appearance. At the same time, Ninetales is said to possess special powers beyond the norms of the average Pokémon. With the powers and charm of Ninetales at their side, a Libra is sure to minimize problems and maintain peace.
5 Scorpio: Alakazam
A Scorpio is a very determined individual who comes across as secretive and mysterious. They tend to be so passionate and invested in their goals that they can get a little aggressive and possessive when it concerns things that really matter to them.
Many Psychic-type Pokémon are mysterious by nature, but there’s something about Alakazam that is extra secretive. It is one of the smartest Pokémon who can use its Psychic powers to control not only its own muscles but also the spoons around it. In this way, Alakazam demonstrates how it can always have full control over the situation.
4 Sagittarius: Haunter
A Sagittarius is typically fun, bubbly, and full of adventure. Rather than tending to their responsibilities, they enjoy living on the edge and making the most of their life.
As seen in the early Pokémon Tower episode of the anime, Haunter is a very playful Ghost-type who wants nothing more than to play with humans. After spending some time with Ash and Pikachu, Haunter decides to leave the Pokémon Tower and follow its new friends back to Saffron City, where it then befriends Sabrina.
3 Capricorn: Machop
Capricorns are the hard workers of the bunch who stay responsible and disciplined in order to achieve their desires. They are the type who will not take “no” for an answer, nor will they ever make excuses for anything.
The hardest working Pokémon of Generation I has to be the tiny but powerful Machop. With a work ethic like no other, Machop will train every single day in order to strengthen its muscles and improve upon itself. It also has been shown to be a perfect partner in helping humans work and train.
2 Aquarius: Arcanine
An Aquarius is an independent thinker who prefers to form opinions and come to conclusions on their own. Therefore, they do not always go with the flow and would rather walk paths they made for themselves.
For any independent Aquarius, the Fire-type Arcanine is the perfect traveling companion. They love to run for long periods with the fire inside their body sustaining their energy and passion. Able to run thousands of miles in one go, an Arcanine is all an Aquarius needs to embark on a liberating journey of fulfillment.
1 Pisces: Jigglypuff
Pisces are known for their artistic ways of thinking and doing. They often pour their hearts and soul into their creative and imaginative activities.
Jigglypuff is a little pink Pokémon whose number one passion is singing. Throughout the Pokémon anime, Jigglypuff is seen performing various songs for Ash and his friends. Unfortunately, its songs put its audience to sleep, which greatly offends Jigglypuff. Hurt, Jigglypuff would retaliate by drawing, another artistic skill, on everyone’s face.
