Considered by some to be the best game in the series, Final Fantasy IX does a lot that other games in the franchise don’t do. The predominantly younger cast with mostly teenagers and 20-somethings has to save the world (of course).

But the game addresses loneliness, existentialism, and mortality in heartbreaking yet earnest ways. It is also set in a medieval period, but not quite the same one as Final Fantasy Tactics or Final Fantasy XII.

The game also features more humanoid species than other games do with around six major races. All of them feature as companion characters in the game — each with their own distinct personalities and traits. Which Final Fantasy IX character are you based on your zodiac sign?

12 Aquarius: Eiko Carol

People born between January 20 - February 18 are known as the water-bearer Aquarius. They can be compassionate with noble sensibilities, but also become flighty, capricious, and detached. This lines up well with how Eiko behaves even if she’s less than 10 years old in the game.

As the lone survivor of a clan of horned summoning humanoids, Eiko is very lonely. She has moogles for company but doesn’t engage with many people until Zidane and the party get to Madain Sari. Like other Aquarians, she is bright-eyed and determined but can become demanding and pouty if she doesn’t get her way.

11 Pisces: Vivi Ornitier

Another lonely character, the fan-favorite Vivi is a black mage prototype created by Kuja. He is about 9 - 10 years old, is talented with black magic, and just wants to find his place in the world. He exhibits traits of those born between February 19 - March 20.

Pisces signs tend to be a bit daydreamy, empathetic, and dedicated to causes and people they care about. Their earnest nature lends itself to artistic ventures and a measured world-view. Unfortunately, they can typically be manipulated more easily than other signs.

10 Aries: Freya Crescent

The tragic tale of Freya Crescent is one of the main takeaways of FF9. Hailing from Burmecia, this anthropomorphic rat humanoid is a dragon knight of extreme skill. She is determined to locate her lost love, defend her home, and excel at anything she puts her mind to. That’s why Freya is the Aries zodiac sign.

Aries are born between March 21 - April 19 and tend to be competitive, confident, and generally good-natured. On a bad day, they can be overly ambitious, possessive, and impulsive.

9 Taurus: Adelbert Steiner

Represented by the bull, the Taurus zodiac sign involves people born between April 20 - May 20. They are typically tenacious to a fault, steadfast, and enjoy simple pleasures in life. But they can also be obstinate, inflexible, and overly serious.

Adelbert Steiner, Captain of the Knights of Pluto and guardian of Princess Garnet, is definitely a Taurus. His constant finger-wagging at anyone who won’t fall in line would get old if he weren’t so hapless at times. But he is unwaveringly committed to justice and the people he cares about.

He also has not one, but two options for ultimate weapons in the game.

8 Gemini: Quina Quen

Oh, Quina. By far one of the oddest characters in the franchise, Quina hails from a swamp filled with a genderless species known as the Qu. Most of them travel the world studying food to become expert gourmands. Quina has a curiosity for everything in the world, but mostly just to find out whether or not they can eat it.

Like other people born between May 21 - June 20, this Gemini is gregarious, excited to experience life, and adaptive. However, they can be impulsive, uncaring of other people’s desires, and materialistic. But not all Geminis love frogs as much as Quina does (probably).

7 Cancer: Blank

Blank and Zidane are bros for life. Such bros, in fact, that Blank sacrificed himself to petrification to help Zidane rescue a princess he had a crush on. And it’s that commitment, empathy, and care that makes Blank a Cancer.

Represented by the Crab, Cancers are born between June 21 - July 22. They can be protective, goofy, and make fantastic friends. But Cancers can also become vengeful home-bodies who let their emotions overwhelm them.

6 Leo: Cid Fabool IX

Every Final Fantasy game features a Cid or someone inspired by the tradition of Cid. Though Cid Highwind is the most famous, FF9’s Cid may be the most loved. He is a bit of a flirt but overall dedicated to his wife Hilda and his inventions, including a cutting-edge airship. His attitude lines up with other Leos.

People born between July 23 - August 22 tend to be very confident, competitive, and appreciative of their friends. In turn, they can become arrogant, demanding, and prone to pouting when criticized even a little bit. In the case of Regent Cid, he learned his lesson when his wife turned him into an Oglop.

5 Virgo: Garnet Til Alexandros XVII

Garnet, aka Dagger, is Queen Brahne’s adopted daughter and a survivor of the summoning people of Madain Sari. She grew up a noble disconnected from her own people and developed a demure, reclusive personality as a result. Underneath that, however, is a joyful person who loves new experiences and people.

This, along with other traits, makes Garnet a Virgo. Others born between August 23 - September 22 can be patient, hard-working, and kind. They can also become overly critical, dissociative, and obsessed with appearances.

She and Zidane serve as something of a proto Yuna and Tidus. But fans generally prefer them as a couple over the FF10 pair.

4 Libra: Beatrix

Beatrix originally starts out as a good character than a powerful antagonist and then a temporary controllable teammate. She curb stomps the party a few times until she learns that Queen Brahne, whom she is sworn to guard, is being manipulated by Kuja. She then vows to protect Princess Garnet and help Zidane and party. This perceived alignment switch matches well with Libra traits.

People born between September 23 - October 22 are like Beatrix with their strong senses of justice, appreciation of structure, and level-headedness. However, they can also be short-tempered, self-pitying, and avoidant.

Steiner, of all people, brings out the best in Beatrix as they have similar goals and views about the world. The same can be said for Libras and their partners in our world.

3 Scorpio: Amarant Coral

People born between October 23 - November 21 tend to have magnetic personalities and be strategic thinkers. But they can also be naturally distrustful of others and be prone to obsessiveness. By these metrics, Mr. Edgy Cool Guy Amarant is definitely a Scorpio.

He is a bounty hunter who wants revenge against Zidane for foiling a job of his and ruining his reputation. He’s one of the older team members at 21 and is also very powerful with his throw and Chakra abilities. His reluctance to trust anyone paired with his “out for himself” attitude are high-key Scorpio traits.

2 Sagittarius: Zidane Tribal

Let it never be said that Zidane never did his best at everything he actually felt like doing. That is to say that Zidane can be determined and outgoing or he can find himself sullen and lackluster. He’s the perfect example of someone born between November 22 - December 21.

Other Sagittarius traits include a love of adventure, optimism in the face of adversity, tactlessness, impatience, and a compulsive need for close friendships. Add these traits to the fact that Zidane is an artificially created lifeform and that’s a lot of money spent on therapy.

1 Capricorn: Kuja

A spiritual and horological successor to the Archers, Capricorns have all of the traits of Scorpios and Sagittarians in one complicated package. They can be serious, moody, and non-communicative while also longing for closeness, structure, and maybe a fireside conversation over hot cocoa.

Kuja, like others born between December 22 - January 19, finds himself torn in twain. He was sent to help harvest souls to resurrect the people of Terra. But he kind of just wants to study fashion and get to know people better. He’s a very conflicted villain and serves as a great foil to another flamboyant antagonist in the series: Kefka Palazzo.
