If there’s one thing the Animal Crossing franchise is famous for, it would be its incomparable cast of characters. As of the latest release, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there are just shy of 400 villagers—391 to be exact. All of them are distinct and super interesting in their own ways, and some have been around since the very first game.
All fans have their favorite villagers and their favorite special characters in the series, but which of them would be your soulmate? Here’s an appropriate Animal Crossing icon for each sign of the Zodiac.
12 Aries (March 21 – April 19): Gulliver
Gulliver may seem ill-fit for a fire sign—a water one may seem better for a sailor such as him—but this generous gift-giving seagull would be a great friend for any Aries.
An ambitious traveler, he loves the concept of being a leader, as does his pirate persona, and is always chipper despite his repeated accidents. He isn’t overly concerned by the details, either, which might explain why he finds himself overboard so often. Many Aries are sure to relate to at least some of this lovable traveler’s traits.
11 Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Blathers
Blathers, the ever-dedicated patron of New Horizons’ museum, is a bit of an enigma. Why is he so averse to bugs? There are lots of possibilities, but the world may never know for sure. One thing that is certain, however, is that this studious owl glows with many of the best virtues of a Taurus.
He enjoys peace, quiet, and a little luxury. He’s a stable, reliable presence who knows his calling in life and is entirely committed to it. A perfect companion for any Taurus.
10 Gemini (May 21 – June 20): Audie
Audie the Wolf is a super popular villager. Between her sunny disposition and the fact that Nintendo seems to have created her as a reference to the famous Animal Crossing-loving grandmother Audrey (whose in-game name is Audie), this character has become a real fan-favorite.
If you’re a Gemini, you’ll probably recognize a lot of Audie’s key traits in yourself. She’s relentlessly energetic and enthusiastic, fun-loving, and adaptable. She may, however, struggle to stay focused when there are various ideas and creative projects bubbling away in her mind all at once.
9 Cancer (June 21 – July 22): Mom
This water sign may be the most emotional and empathetic in the Zodiac. Often very sensitive and protective, this sign has a very keen intuitive sense of others’ thoughts and feelings.
The New Horizons character that best embodies these values, perhaps, is one that players never actually get to see in person in the game: the protagonist’s mom. She sends frequent letters to the player, containing charming exclusive items and touching, sometimes slightly melancholy messages detailing her memories and hopes and wishes for her child—or something silly.
8 Leo (July 23- August 22): Elvis
There are some big egos in Dimitri’s Blue Lions house in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and the lions of the Zodiac also leave one heck of an impression on all they meet. Often extroverted, opinionated, and dramatic, Leos command attention at all times.
Elvis the Lion, with his regal house and Cranky personality type, defines a lot of what it means to be a Leo (his birthday is July 23rd, meaning that he actually is one). Cranky villagers often clash with more easy-going personality types, so this bold and courageous soul will need some help from a kindred spirit to keep his pride in check.
7 Virgo (August 23 – September 22): K.K. Slider
One of the most iconic and beloved Animal Crossing characters of all, the serene, practical, and emotionally guarded K.K. Slider is probably the coolest musician in gaming. This chill earth sign couldn’t be more different from the passionate fire sign that preceded it in the Zodiac.
K.K. Slider, like a lot of people that bear this star sign, is quite inscrutable. Hard-working and logical, he doesn’t like to let his emotions show, but he has a keen sense of how others are feeling and is committed to helping, coming equipped with a song for every occasion.
6 Libra (September 23 – October 22): Timmy And Tommy
Libras personify balance, harmony, order, and togetherness. Really, there’s no better candidate in the series for a Libra soulmate than the lovable duo of shopkeepers Timmy and Tommy.
Business-savvy and money-oriented, these two little entrepreneurs would get on very well a Libra. Their randomly-stocked store reflects this star sign’s desire to try to please everybody, while their friendly natures allow them to gel with almost anybody who crosses their paths.
5 Scorpio (October 23 – November 21): Isabelle
Scorpios, like other water signs, are keenly intuitive. They seek close connections with others and are always on the lookout for problems to resolve. Trusty Isabelle has shined in this sort of role since her introduction in the series and continues to happily perform it in New Horizons. However, in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, we see another side to her, the sting in this Scorpio kindred spirit’s/good doggo’s tail.
Scorpios can also be wily and a little sneaky, willing to carefully plot ways to get themselves ahead. Isabelle’s kit in Smash, with her traps and projectiles, reflect this very nicely.
4 Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21): Celeste
It was inevitable that Celeste, Animal Crossing’s resident Astrology enthusiast, would appear in this list. What’s surprising is just how well she fits the image of a Sagittarius.
Celeste has an intellectual, mysterious air, deeply entrenched in the movements of the planets and all things spiritual, as players will know if they’ve encountered her on their islands on a clear night. Always open to change, she’ll be there to provide you with a new valuable DIY recipe on most encounters. Watch the skies while Celeste is around!
3 Capricorn (December 22 – January 19): Tom Nook
A controversial character in the franchise, Tom Nook tends to draw the ire of players by… well, siphoning off just about every Bell they earn for his ever-so-tempting house upgrades and other projects.
Perhaps he’s simply misunderstood, though. An ambitious and goal-oriented critter such as himself would settle for nothing less, after all. He always has the next job on his mind and approaches his aims in an affable and pleasant way, however money-hungry he might be. Some prized Capricorn traits, there.
2 Aquarius (January 20 – February 18): Pascal
The main appeal of the Animal Crossing series for many is the sense of freedom. No levels to complete, no difficult bosses to struggle against, no rules to follow, just a town/island to decorate and develop in the player’s own way, at their own pace.
For experienced players, these concepts probably bring one special character in particular to mind: Pascal, the most delightfully carefree and philosophical otter in existence. He enjoys the company of those like him and is committed to the idea of teamwork—he sure doesn’t seem to have much luck finding those Scallops by himself—and his serene seafaring lifestyle. He can also be flighty and aloof, though. A textbook Aquarius’ companion.
1 Pisces (February 19 – March 20): Luna
As some of the game’s brilliantly bizarre dialogue makes clear, the division between fantasy and reality is a huge gray area in the world of Animal Crossing—as, of course, is the fact that players have fitness fanatic penguins and kindly elephants as neighbors. This is never clearer than in the case of Luna, the tapir who runs the dream service which allows the player to dream of—and, in so doing, visit—other islands.
Like a true Pisces, Luna cares for the sleepers in her charge, guiding them between the dream world and reality. She sees things that others perhaps cannot, and she seems to be comfortable in almost any situation. A friendly and deep-thinking character with more than a dose of mystery about her, she’ll be an ideal soulmate for any Pisces.
