The first expansion for Pokémon Sword & Shield is due to be released in June, but no one has given an exact release date as of yet. However, it’s possible that a current promotion might be hinting at when the Isle of Armor will be released.

Game Freak has abandoned the idea of a third version or direct sequel for the mainline Pokémon games. Instead, the games will be updated with DLC from this point on. Pokémon Sword & Shield will be the first mainline Pokémon games to receive DLC, which will come in the form of two expansions. The people who purchase the Expansion Pass will gain access to the Isle of Armor in June and The Crown Tundra in the fall. These expansions will add hundreds of new & old Pokémon to the game, along with two new Wild Areas and storylines that take place after the events of Pokémon Sword & Shield.

The Isle of Armor DLC has always been touted for a June release, but doubts were cast when the COVID-19 situation began. The lack of a concrete release date outside of June led many fans to believe that the Isle of Armor would be pushed back to later in the summer, but Game Freak has stood by its word and the DLC is still planned to come out next month.

It’s possible that the Isle of Armor DLC will be released mid-June, based on a current promotion that is going on with Pokémon Sword & Shield. There is currently a series of Mystery Gift events happening that allow players to receive a free Galarian Pokémon (as of now, it’s Mr. Mime), along with a rare item set. The last of these giveaways is for Galarian Meowth and it’s due to end on June 19. The official Pokémon webpage for the Mystery Gift event also claims that the Isle of Armor will be released near the end of June. As such, it’s a safe bet that the DLC will be available after the giveaway is finished, so it will be released on June 19 or after.

The expectations for the Isle of Armor are high and fans are eager to see if the Expansion Pass will be worth the money, considering the backlash to the lack of content in Pokémon Sword & Shield. We won’t have long to find out, assuming that Game Freak doesn’t pull a super last-minute delay.
