FX’s biting mockumentary on the bone idle bloodsuckers of Staten Island, What We Do In The Shadows, will sink its teeth into the virtual iteration of the Comic-Con on July 25 at 5 pm PT. The annual San Diego Comic-Com is skipping its traditional mass gathering for a completely digital convention this year, but that has not discouraged heavy-hitters from going ahead with their big-budget reveals, glitzy celebrity panels, and earnest fan-creator discussions. FX’s Shadows too has a number of announcements and cast meet-and-greets in store for its cult fandom at the convention. The panel’s biggest reveal, perhaps, is going to be about its new game Guillermo’s Stakeout rather than about the show itself.
Earlier this month, What We Do In The Shadows announced that it was spreading out its wings into the world of gaming. The franchise’s first game, Guillermo’s Stakeout, is reportedly an adventure RPG that will be released on the FX San Diego Comic-Con website during the Shadows Comic-Con panel. While FX is yet to divulge the gameplay details of its forthcoming mordant vampiric game, it has teased the preliminary premise of the action-adventure. Guillermo’s Stakeout will require players to embody the vampiric household’s disregarded slave, Guillermo De la Cruz, as they embark on a mission to rescue dorkish vampires from impending threats. The game’s adversaries are familiar What We Do In The Shadows nemeses, and players’ end goal is to protect the oblivious main crew from their sinister ploys.
The What We Do In The Shadows season 2 finale had established Guillermo as the ultimate vampire slayer. Despite his yearnings to be a bloodsucker, Guillermo was over-powered by his Van Helsing lineage, which gave him a new direction in life. The Shadows game also plays around the same idea. In Guillermo’s Stakeout, all characters from the Shadows’ universe have been cartooned into barrel-esque, uncoordinated cutesy creatures. The arcane chums, typically unaware of all the danger, are up to their usual tactics and errands. Hence it’s up to their loyal familiar to safeguard them from bloodthirsty pursuers like werewolves, vampire hunters, and the vitriolic Vampiric Council. Harvey Guillen, who plays Guillermo in FX’s What We Do In The Shadows, confirmed details about his character’s eponymous game on Instagram.
Some new information about Guillermo’s Stakeout has emerged on Reddit. Recently, user too_old_4_this_crap posted an alternate poster of the game to the social news aggregation. The post features Shadows’ notorious cursed witch-hat as its main focus, suggesting that the prop might have a significant role in unfolding the game’s story. The witch-hat offered a running gag in both the seasons of Shadows. The accursed pointed headgear often initiated conflicts of possession between Laszlo (Matt Berry) and Simon the Devious (Nick Kroll). But wherever it landed, it only brought doom to its keeper.
The unveiling of Guillermo’s Stakeout has only increased the anticipation for What We Do In The Shadows season 3. The game appears to be packed with fun visuals and it will hopefully deliver some entertaining gameplay once it comes out.
