Chu worked as a quest designer for World of Warcraft, which led directly to his job as Overwatch’s lead writer.
“What we really wanted to do was build another universe that would stand up, we hoped, with Warcraft and Diablo and Starcraft,” Chu said. “That task quickly became very big, as we realized that we needed to dig out the story, dig out this very large number of heroes and write them all, talk about the world for building levels. It very quickly became my total job.”
At almost an hour and a half, the full interview is long, but it’s worth giving a listen, since it gives a lot of insight into the ins and outs of working at Blizzard.
