Traditionally, EA has held a somewhat neglectful stance regarding the Nintendo Switch. Simply put, it seemed as though the company believed it largely wasn’t a console worth investing in. Yet, with the announcement that battle royale Apex Legends will be coming to Switch, the floodgates have opened for EA games and ports for Switch. It’s just a matter of what’s to come.
The Mass Effect trilogy
Many have been clamoring for the sci-fi classic’s return in one form or another. Mass Effect: Andromeda did the franchise poorly with its release, and before that, Mass Effect 3 left a huge portion of fans embittered by a disappointing ending.
Yet, the first three games still accomplish masterful storytelling with tight third-person gunplay and familiar RPG mechanics. And since it’s a BioWare franchise, the Mass Effect series is full of witty dialogue and memorable characters. Many believe a remaster of the trilogy is on the way, though it’s just as likely that a Switch release could be heading our way at some point.
Skate-ing along
With the announcement that a fourth Skate installment is in its early development stages, there could well be more Skate content between now and that game’s release. Namely, we could see the Skate games come to the Switch. As some of the last generation’s most accessible titles, these would be a great for the Switch. Playing it on the go would be an absolute joy, and this seems like a fair no-brainer for EA.
In Bad Company
Although recent Battlefield entries might be a tad demanding for the Nintendo Switch’s hardware, Battlefield: Bad Company and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 were two of the series’ best titles. Certainly, they had some of the best storytelling and entailed some of the franchise’s tightest gunplay.
The Switch’s online component has yet to truly be tested, but with a release of both Bad Company titles, we could see huge online battles that could test the limits of the hardware’s online network abilities. Apex Legends is about to do just that, though with Battlefield: Bad Company’s fantastic campaigns, it would be a spinoff series well worth revisiting on the Switch.
The Dead Space series
Dead Space has been dormant for a while now. Although Dead Space 3 is getting a Steam release later this year, the franchise has seen next to no action in quite a while, so making a return to the Switch would intrigue.
As Dead Space is commonly considered one of the last generation’s most horrifying titles, playing it again on the Switch might turn out to be one of the best ways to do so. There aren’t too many scary hits on the hybrid console, so Dead Space would surely add depth to the Switch’s library of horror games.
Switching it up with The Sims
The Sims is one of EA’s longstanding premier series and has seen numerous console entries over the years to more or less success. Why not release any number of the games on the Switch?
Since The Sims 2, console iterations of The Sims have fallen short of their PC counterparts, but there could be a chance for redemption on the Switch. Perhaps a brand new Sims game designed specifically for Switch would be a neat entry. More than likely, however, it would be a Sims 4 port. Regardless, The Sims has found a (divided) home on PC and console, and the series appeared on other Nintendo consoles. What gives with Sims on Switch?
Time will tell how the Switch handles Apex Legends, though it will surely be a big hit among free-to-play and hero shooter fans. Hopefully, the gaming industry giant decides to bring more of its library to Switch.
