An Xbox executive, Mike Ybarra, takes to social media to criticize Sony’s stance on backward compatibility. Earlier in the week, Sony executive Shawn Layden explained why there are no plans to bring backward compatibility to PS4, as PS1 and PS2 games look “ancient” and he doesn’t understand why anybody would want to play them. On Twitter, Mike Ybarra, the corporate vice president of the Xbox and Windows gaming platform at Microsoft, said that he “disagreed” with Sony’s point of view....

There’s no doubt that many fans are currently taking advantage of the monthly subscription service known as the Xbox Game Pass, with a recent announcement detailing a handful of new titles coming to the service next month. Now, the platform’s Director of Programming, Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, has unveiled even more games for fans of Microsoft’s consoles to get their hands on by confirming the Games with Gold for April 2018....

Microsoft updates the Project Scorpio website to remove the mention of ‘high fidelity VR’ leading some fans to suggest that plans to support VR gaming have been dropped. When Microsoft announced the Project Scorpio console at E3 2016, fans were delighted. Microsoft said that the console would be far more powerful than the standard Xbox One. The company also stated that Project Scorpio would offer 4K gaming and high fidelity virtual reality gaming too, including support for Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic VR title, Fallout 4 VR....

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time just launched last week for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to critical and commercial success. Looks like Layton might’ve solved his last case - in America, at least. According to a report from GamesIndustryBiz, Level-5 has almost entirely shuttered its North American offices. Layoffs began last year, with employees “given every indication” that the studio wasn’t long for this world. It gets worse. As far as GI Biz’s sources know, there are no more solid plans to bring Level-5’s games to the West. That means fan favorite franchises like Professor Layton, Yo-Kai Watch, and Ni No Kuni could very likely remain Japanese exclusives for the foreseeable future....

Ryan Reynolds is taking a break. Speaking with THR, Reynolds revealed that he is “trying to create a little bit more space for my family and time with them” after recently completing work on a holiday season film called Spirited with Will Ferrell for Apple TV+ (Reynolds is married to actress Blake Lively, with whom he has three daughters). Reynolds has had a busy 2021, and will have shown up in no less than four movies by the time the year comes to an end....

Warner Bros. recently announced Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 1984 will be released across the United States on Christmas day in theaters and on HBO Max. Now, the studio has set release dates for the highly-anticipated DC sequel in international markets, where HBO Max is currently unavailable. The global pandemic had already forced Warner Bros. to delay the theatrical debut of Wonder Woman 1984 twice before the studio settled on the Christmas release date....

Xbox Live Gold subscribers will have five games to download in December, including the Thief reboot, Sacred 3, and Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. As some may recall, October’s free Games with Gold games were somewhat disappointing for those that own both an Xbox 360 and an Xbox One, as Microsoft decided to have The Walking Dead free for both systems. Game Pass shows no signs of slowing coming out a month out of E3 2019, following the announcement and launch of Xbox Game Pass for PC and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Today, Xbox revealed the next wave of free games coming to Game Pass subscribers in the early weeks of July.
